You're Not Alone in This
Worrying about how you’ll afford to care for a baby is one of the most common reasons women reach out to us, and it’s a completely valid concern. Financial strain doesn’t mean you’re failing as a parent, and it doesn’t mean adoption is your only option either. It simply means you need real information about what help is available before you decide anything.
What Financial Help Looks Like If You Choose Adoption
If you’re considering an adoption plan, Florida law allows you to receive financial assistance for your basic living needs throughout your pregnancy and for up to six weeks after your baby is born. This typically covers rent and housing, groceries, utilities, transportation, and medical expenses related to your pregnancy. These funds usually come from the adoptive family through the agency, not from you, and are never payment for your baby, since Florida law prohibits the sale of children.
Medical Care and Insurance Help
If you don’t have insurance, we can help you apply for Florida Medicaid to cover pregnancy-related medical costs, and connect you with providers in your area. We can also help arrange transportation to your appointments, so a lack of insurance doesn’t stand between you and the prenatal care you and your baby need.
This Doesn't Mean You Have to Choose Adoption
Financial struggle is a reason to reach out, not a reason to assume adoption is your only path. If you’d rather parent your baby, our Resources for Birth Parents page lists food assistance, medical clinics, and other community organizations across Florida that can help make parenting more financially manageable.
