It's Never Too Late to Make a Plan
If your baby has already been born, whether that was yesterday or months ago, it’s not too late to explore an adoption plan. Many of the women we work with reach out after delivery, sometimes because circumstances changed, sometimes because they didn’t know adoption was still an option once the baby was home.
What Happens if You've Already Left the Hospital
The consent and custody process works a little differently once you’ve already brought your baby home, since the 48-hour hospital consent window will have passed. Every situation is unique at this stage, including cases where a child is already involved with the Department of Children and Families, so the right next step depends on your specific circumstances. Call us and we can talk through what applies to you.
If You're in an Urgent Situation
If your baby is younger than seven days old and you feel unable to care for them right now, Florida’s Safe Haven law allows you to bring your baby to a hospital or fire station with no questions asked. Our Your Options page has more detail on how Safe Haven works and how it differs from making an adoption plan with an agency.
Your Adoption Plan Can Still Move Forward
Whether your baby is a week old or several months old, we can still walk you through building an adoption plan, choosing an adoptive family, and understanding what the legal process looks like from this point forward. The type of adoption, open, semi-open, or closed, is still entirely your choice, just as it would be if you reached out during pregnancy.
